ARAM PACHYAN

Aram Pachyan is an acclaimed writer of independence generation, with several prizes, including the honorable Presidential Youth Prize. His first novel Goodbye, Bird has become a national bestseller in 2012 and is still in the top lists of bestselling Armenian literature. It has been translated into English, French, Bulgarian and the rights to Serbian are sold. He has been a writer in residence at Fall Residency of International Writing Program of the University of Iowa, Iowa, USA in 2018 and at Villa Waldberta, Munich, Germany in 2019.


The play I Am A Vegetarian was staged in 2017 based on his novel Goodbye, Bird and a musical piece Pachyan Fragments by composer Aram Hovhannisyan, based on Pachyan’s P/F novel, was written and performed in the US in 2015. On December 10th, 2021 in Munich Cultural Center LUISE premiered the Chamber opera Goodbye, Bird based on the eponymous novel by Aram Pachyan. The composer is Arsen Babajanyan, who studied at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory and at University of Music and Theatre, Munich. He is the President at Association of Young Armenian Composers and Performers NGO and art director at ARTCONCEPT.

Pachyan has also authored two short story collections Robinson and Ocean. Robinson was published in Ukraine and the UK. Albanian rights are sold. Ukrainian edition was widely reviewed by literary critics and well accepted by readers and media. The collection Ocean includes short stories and essays including works on arts, music, memory and author’s reading experience. His last book, a novel P/F was published in 2020. The book is a search for new fiction language and expression, new fragmental story-telling.
