On December 12th at 20:00, the presentation of the novel “The Third Sex” will take place in the cultural territory of St. Peter’s church in Strasbourg. Organizers of the event are Bellville édition, Pièce artistic organization and Calamity-Jane Cie theatrical company. “Third Sex” was released in October 2021 at the Belleville Publishing House, which publishes a popular foreign literature.
The original book was published in Armenian in 2019 by Edge Publishing House.
The central protagonists of the novel are four women- actresses, and the novel speaks with four different voices. The actresses start to lose their identity while playing the roles of their stage heroes. The novel tells the reader about the difficulties of being an actress which makes them victims of that profession. Irrespective of their social status, reputation and their place in society all the four actresses are doomed to be unhappy and deprived of love. With the Third Sex, Jean-Chat Tekgyozyan addresses the difficulty of women to lead their own existence against a society that still considers them incomplete without men, and punishes courage rather than inspires it.
