BLOODY BET BEATS TV SHOW RATES IN ARMENIA

Recently an Armenian show called The Bloody Bet was aired. And the scriptwriter of the show is ARI Literary and Talent Agency writer, script-writer, producer, Harout Ghukassian. The show was a tremendous success and was even compared with another popular show Squid Game. To have our questions answered and to satisfy the interest of the audience, we decided to interview Harout Ghukassian.

ARI: Your show The Bloody Bet, consisting of 20 episodes, has a phenomenal success. Can you tell us some details about it?

HG: The show was broadcast during one month, one episode per-day and the last one was aired two days ago. The numbers are fascinating. We had total of 20 million views on different platforms. And note, that the show wasn’t on TV, it was distributed through a cable channel, YouTube and other platforms.

ARI: For a country with 2,5 million population, this is a fantastic phenomenon.

HG: I agree. This is really an unprecedented success. According to statistic from the disitributor, the show has been watched also in other countries.

ARI: Did you expect such a success?

HG: Frankly, yes, I did. It was obvious while writing the script that we were going to have a very interesting project. One more important thing: The Bloody Bet was filmed having a very modest budget.

ARI: Surprisingly your show coincided with the famous Korean show Squid Game, which also had incredible views in Netflix.

HG: The premiere of Squid Game was aired on September 17th, when our show was already filmed and was in its editing period. We had started working in spring and in summer we were already shooting the film. Perhaps the only similarity between our and Korean show is the genre, when a limited number of people are forced or offered to play survival games. I think I can state that the basis for this genre are gladiator fights in Ancient Rome.

ARI: Should we wait for the second season?

HG: Now I am into other projects, but never say never.
