In June of this year, Susanna Harutyunyan was invited to Madrid to take part in the presentation of the Spanish edition of her novel La Aldea Escondida (Ravens Before Noah) which was organized within the framework of Madrid Book Fair by the publisher Armaenia Editorial. The translator of the book from Armenian into Spanish is Vartan Matossian.

Susanna’s visit to Spain was made possible thanks to the generous support of the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation’s Fellowship grant, which enabled her to participate in a series of events dedicated to the international promotion of her novel.

On June 5th, Susanna visited the Madrid Book Fair, where she met readers, signed copies of the Spanish edition of her novel, and engaged in informal conversations about its topics and the cultural-historical context it explores. That same day, Susanna was interviewed by David Valiente, a journalist with the literary magazine Librujula, which publishes both in print and digital format.

Later that evening the official presentation of the book took place at the “Parenteza” bookstore in Madrid. The event was attended by representatives of the publishing house, members of the Armenian community in Spain and Embassy of Armenia, and readers. It was a meaningful occasion to present Armenian literature to a wider audience and to discuss the novel’s historical and literary significance.

The following day, June 6th, Susanna continued her engagements with two additional interviews—one with Orsola Casagrande, journalist for the Basque newspaper Berria and editor at Comma Press, and another with Luciana de Nello from the Argentine publication Página 12. These conversations offered valuable opportunities to reflect on Armenian history, literature, and identity, and to share the novel’s message with diverse linguistic and cultural communities.
